I was in San Francisco all week for a conference and some meetings. Today, I had a spare day to spend with my two sons. So, in the morning Andy and I had the chance to visit the famous Exploratorium science museum (on a pier where the city meets San Francisco Bay); in the afternoon John and I took a hike in the hills above San Carlos (further down the peninsula) overlooking the Bay.

The trails were dusty and the trees and shrubs all unfamiliar to me, so accustomed am I to the muddy trails and lush greenery of New Hampshire. Most unusual, though, was the sight of a rattlesnake alongside the trail! Fortunately, some passing hikers had warned us about it, so we were on the lookout. As I stood aside, the rattler snuck back into the shrubbery. Click the photo to watch the video!

A pretty day, with views across the hillside mansions and bayside factories to the blue waters of the Bay. See gallery.
