Over the past two years, most of my wildlife videos have been captured by cameras placed on a hill near my home. In this post – my final post of wildlife-camera video until next year – I have some pretty neat stuff to share. Lots of bobcats and black bears! Read on to watch both videos.

First, the hilltop. The very first place I set up a wildlife camera, outside my backyard, was this hilltop – and I’ve never moved it. A path crosses this hilltop, and I’ve seen just about every type of animal pass by. This month we get to see a lot of variety and a very, um, personal view of a large momma bear.

Next, the vernal pool. This is the most exciting video of the month! Regular readers know this site has been very productive. This month, I had four cameras around the vernal pool. When I retrieved the cameras today, I discovered all four had been visited by bears, and three out of four had been moved or damaged by bears. Perhaps it’s a good thing I’ve removed them from the forest, for now.

It has been dry for two weeks, and the vernal pool (true to form) has dried up, leaving only a pool of stiff mud… filled with animal tracks.

As I said at the opening, this is my last post of wildlife-camera video for the year. I’ll be living abroad for the next ~11 months – more to come on that point – so the cameras are going into storage. Meanwhile, enjoy the videos!
