Weekend in New York City

A quick trip to NYC, including a Broadway show, a fine dinner, and a special event at the Museum of Natural History.

We just returned from a quick trip to NYC, which included a lovely drive south through Vermont, Massachussetts, and Connecticut during the emerging fall foliage season. It was time for us to visit the big city! Such a change from our small-town life. Read on!

We had time to take in a Broadway show – only the second time I’ve ever seen a show on Broadway, so we went to see a classic: The Lion King. Stupendous!

The theater happens to overlook Times Square (hence this post’s opening photo, above), so we wandered into the Square after the show. There I got pulled into a street performance, as a “volunteer”. The performance culminated with the performer leaping over a line of men, including me.

We drove downtown to enjoy a fabulous Indian dinner at Tamarind Tribeca.

On the walk to dinner we came across Tea Dealers, a lovely shop in Tribeca selling rare teas from around the world. We couldn’t resist!

The next day we were invited to a special event at the Museum of Natural History, at which a friend and his family dedicated the “Peking Man” exhibit to his father as an 80th birthday present. There were many Dartmouth people attending!

We had little time to explore the museum itself. We need to return!

As one final note: during the drive into the city we stumbled onto a lovely little pizzeria, just north of the city in Yonkers, which bills itself as the Best Pizza in Westchester County. Dunwoodie Pizza, since 1970. Highly recommended!
