Wildlife camera – hunting season

My wildlife cameras show a lot of activity in the forest during hunting season.

Snow fell overnight, just a little. It seemed like a fine way to mark the end of hunting season. I headed out in the early morning light, striding uphill through the woods, eager to check on my wildlife cameras. A month ago, just before hunting season, I placed the cameras in promising locations after obtaining permission from the landowner. Deer season – specifically, rifle season, when most hunters are out in the woods – ended last night. I dressed in bright orange clothing, just in case, and full of hope for what my own ‘hunt’ may have captured. Read on to find out!

As I walked a familiar route through the woods I realized I was following the footsteps of another hunter, one far more skilled than me. One that is a resident of these woods but is rarely ever seen. Coyote! Maybe my cameras had captured a coyote. What else? surely some deer; these woods are full of deer. I soon reached the cameras, swapped in fresh memory cards, and headed home.

The motion-sensitive cameras captured photos and video of deer, fox, coyote, bobcat, turkey, … and at least three hunters. I’ll share with you a composite video of wildlife only, my favorite snippets and trimmed to four and a half minutes. Enjoy!
